Hi all,
Consider promoting in your newsletters, or look at the opportunities for you to engage as well if you are a former first-generation college student.

Subject: Spread the word: First Gen Events + Opportunities!
Good morning,
There are a few upcoming opportunities to support or get involved with First Gen Nebraska, and we need your help to get the word out!
The next FGN Coffee & Connections event is one week from today (February 21) from 10 – 11:30 am behind Dunkin’ in Love Library. Students are invited to attend to meet and mingle with fellow first-gen students and connect with faculty and staff who are first-gen supporters. This is a low-stakes, no-pressure event. Students can stay for as long (or short) as they want, stop by with questions, or come for nothing but vibes. Members of the First Gen Advisory board will be around for questions and conversations!
We’ll be offering *free* coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and donuts, and I believe there will be button making again!
UESS units: A digital sign for this event is attached – it can start running today and continue through next Friday (non-UESS units are invited to run the sign too, if relevant for your area).
This event is designed for first gen students, but we know it can be a little intimidating for students to head into a new space all on their own. We’d love to have you join us, especially if you’re bringing along a few first-gen friends 😊
You can check out the event posting here<https://events.unl.edu/firstgennebraska/2025/02/21/187112/>.
Apply to join the First Gen Advisory Board!
It’s that time of year again - First Generation Nebraska (FGN) seeks applications from UNL students, faculty, staff, and alumni who wish to serve as members of the FGN Advisory Board.
The FGN Advisory Board meets three times a semester during the academic year to provide feedback to the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor’s Office regarding how to best support first-generation students, staff, and faculty. In addition, board members commit to active participation in FGN events and pledge to co-lead and support first-gen initiatives, such as the Coffee & Connections event above and First Gen Week. The term of service is for two consecutive academic years.
Applications are due by Friday, March 14, 2025. Applications should be submitted online here<https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=rQHb_YNJbkOrNRrwQ7gYyUV…>.
Please share with your networks – drop in newsletters or group chats, tap individuals that you think would make great board members, and bring a few first-gen students to join the events!
Have a great weekend!
Lydia

Subject: Re: Law Enforcement
Hi everyone,
We received the following additional guidance from the Office of General Counsel:
1. Law enforcement needs a warrant to enter private spaces.
2. If law enforcement shows up with a warrant call UNL PD and the Office of General Counsel.
3. Comply with the warrant and do not try to impede law enforcement officers.
4. If they do not have a subpoena, you are not obligated to submit to an interview.
UNL Police Department at 402-472-2222
NU Office of General Counsel at 402-472-1201
From the earlier guidance, private spaces include residence halls, classrooms, and offices. I do not anticipate additional guidance, broader university communication on this question, or any signage. If you have specific questions and would like to talk them through, I would be happy to talk with you by phone.
I know you are all doing your best to manage many many hard and frankly scary things. You are doing amazing work with energy and care. Thank you. We will continue to do our best to help.
Warm wishes,
June

Hi all,
Can you please bring your laptops to tomorrow's meeting? We will be reviewing some of the new zoom settings and it will be helpful to have everyone be able to get into zoom and make changes in the moment.
Thanks,

Subject: Applications for the 2025-2026 International Welcome Team are now OPEN!
Hello everyone!
I wanted to share with you that our applications for the International Welcome Team are now open! We are looking to hire about 20 students. Below is the general information with more details on our website that is linked. Please share it with any students you feel would be a great fit!
Welcome Team members provide the peer support and local knowledge necessary to make new undergraduate students feel at home as a Husker from the moment they arrive in Nebraska. The team greets and assists new international students at the Lincoln airport, staffs residence hall welcome desks, and leads activities during International Orientation and International Welcome Week.
The best Welcome Team candidates are positive, motivated, and reliable. Team members must be full-time, degree-seeking students. Applicants with previous experience in mentoring, leadership, or cultural groups and a desire to help new international students adapt would make strong candidates.
The application deadline is February 21. For more details and instructions on how to apply, go to https://go.unl.edu/intlwt.
If you have questions about the role, please let me know!
Thanks
Emily
