All,
Thank you for a productive board meeting last Friday.
During the meeting there were a couple of questions that I did not know the precise answers to. Here they are with answers.
1)What percentage of the UNL budget comes from the state legislature? A: 17.3%, ($279,463,559 of $1,615,350,760). 2)What percentage of the UNL budget come from tuition? A: 11.8% ($190,946,428 of $1,615,350,760). 3)What percentage of a cut is $20M? A: 4.2% of the state aided budget of $471,350,760.
Note that the total annual budget of UNL ($1,615,350,760) includes a lot of other funding sources including athletics (as a cost center), federally funded research, etc.. We refer to the combination of the funds from the state legislature ($279,463,559) and tuition ($190,946,428) as the state aided budget. The state aided budget is what funds the academic side of the university, so the $20M cut is 4.2% of the academic budget.
4)How is F&A distributed at UNL? A: The typical distribution of F&A at UNL is : 73.5% is kept centrally to support university libraries, the Office of Research and Innovation, and other centralized services/organizations. 15.9% is kept by the college 5.3% goes to the department of the faculty member who writes the grant 5.3% goes to the faculty member who writes the grant
If you have any questions, please let me know.
