Colleagues - I write to share about upcoming arrivals and a departure in the building. On the NIC Business Center front, Mindy Lang has been named as the NIC Business Center Manager. She is set to start on May 1. Mindy is coming from the AEM Business Center where she currently serves as a Finance Specialist. Also, the support person covering duties of departed Ben Rogers until his replacement is identified is Lisa Beethe. Lisa is part of the Nat Res Business Center and can be reached at lbeethe3(a)unl.edu. Welcome to both. On the faculty front, Catelyn Bridges has accepted the offer to assume the position of food manufacturing engineer at the rank of assistant professor in the BSE (45% Tea and 25% Res) and FST (30% Res) departments. Her anticipated start date is January 1, 2025. Catelyn holds a BS degree in BSEN from UNL and an MS degree in Bio and Ag Engineering from Texas A&M. She is ABD in her PhD journey at the University of California - Davis. She's a native of Omaha. Thoughts from Dr. Mark Stone (BSE Department Head) on the Catelyn's acceptance - "This hiring decision comes after an extensive and extended search process, dating back four years. As many of you are aware, our initial open search processes did not result in a hire after two rounds of interviews. This led us to pivot towards a targeted search approach, through which Ms. Bridges emerged as a candidate whose vision and expertise uniquely position her to contribute to our departments. I want to assure everyone that this decision was made with the utmost consideration for the long-term benefit of BSE, FST, IANR, and UNL. Throughout this process, we received outstanding support from our deans, the Vice Chancellor's office, ORED, and even the Chancellor's office, affirming the strategic importance of this appointment despite our difficult budget conditions". And finally, on the staff front with sadness, I share that Sharisa Heier, Administrative Coordinator in FST for the past five years has accepted an offer outside of UNL in Lincoln. Her last day with us will be May 2. She has been of tremendous assistance to me and others during her time in the FIC. Please join me on Tuesday, April 30 at a noon luncheon (location and other details TBA) to thank her for her patience and support, and to wish her well in her new adventure. 3rd floor autoclaves not functioning yet

Good morning, The 3rd floor autoclaves are still not operational. However, I checked 1st and 2nd floor and those autoclaves are up to temp and can be used. The service provider has been contacted about 3rd floor. If anything changes I will let everyone know. One leak of a water line was discovered in one of the labs last night but we are not sure if this is what caused the draining of the RO tanks. This is a good reminder to all individuals working in the labs to make sure the valves are completely closed after using them. Even a small leak can drain the system or cause damage if undiscovered for a period of time. Thanks, Jayne

I heard from Nebraska Nova that RO water is being produced, but slowly. Please refrain from using the autoclaves on 3rd and 2nd floor because of the issue until tomorrow morning. The autoclave in the teaching lab appears to be working as it is on a separate system, so those with access there can coordinate with Angie if they have an emergency load. Thanks, Jayne Stratton

RO water issue_do not use autoclaves for a while

The building was out of RO water this morning and maintenance is trying to figure out the problem. They think it was an issue with one of the autoclaves on 3rd floor malfunctioning. Please refrain from using the building autoclaves for a few hours this morning until the RO water can replenish (maybe around 10:30 am or so). This includes 4th floor so if anyone knows individuals in the labs up there, please make sure they are aware to not use their autoclave for a little while too. When I hear back more specifically about the issue, I will send another message. Monthly cleaning of refrigerators in Faculty/staff lounge

Hello folks, Here comes the monthly cleanup for the refrigerators in the Faculty/Staff Lounge. By 3pm of this Friday, any unlabeled/named, or expired containers or food will be thrown away. I periodically check those two units for moldy food, and possibly clean that out of the refrigerators to avoid contamination to other food. Enjoy safe/quality food, enjoy life. These paintings are artifacts of past and present investigations-presented in various stages, from initial sketches to near completion. This summer, D'Adamo will use the NIC art gallery as her temporary studio, revising and completing the works displayed, thus making visible how artworks evolve from concept to completion. Much of her earlier work delved into ecology, examining how and where we learn about the natural systems we are part of. Now, her research extends to educational environments, exploring how learning is shaped by the complex institutional systems we navigate. This progression reflects a deepening exploration of interconnection and complexity, both natural and educational. The location of Learning Environments at Nebraska Innovation Campus, with NIC’s strong ties to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the R1 flagship land-grant university, enhances the exhibition by embodying the interdisciplinary exploration and academic inquiry that underpin her work. Kimberley D’Adamo is an artist and a lecturer at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. She studied philosophy and the history of science at St. John's College in Maryland. She earned her BA in Visual Art and Philosophy at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. She has an MA in Art Education from SFSU and just received her doctorate at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. These paintings are artifacts of past and present investigations-presented in various stages, from initial sketches to near completion. This summer, D'Adamo will use the NIC art gallery as her temporary studio, revising and completing the works displayed, thus making visible how artworks evolve from concept to completion. Much of her earlier work delved into ecology, examining how and where we learn about the natural systems we are part of. Now, her research extends to educational environments, exploring how learning is shaped by the complex institutional systems we navigate. This progression reflects a deepening exploration of interconnection and complexity, both natural and educational. The location of Learning Environments at Nebraska Innovation Campus, with NIC’s strong ties to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the R1 flagship land-grant university, enhances the exhibition by embodying the interdisciplinary exploration and academic inquiry that underpin her work. Kimberley D’Adamo is an artist and a lecturer at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. She studied philosophy and the history of science at St. John's College in Maryland. She earned her BA in Visual Art and Philosophy at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. She has an MA in Art Education from SFSU and just received her doctorate at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. These paintings are artifacts of past and present investigations-presented in various stages, from initial sketches to near completion. This summer, D'Adamo will use the NIC art gallery as her temporary studio, revising and completing the works displayed, thus making visible how artworks evolve from concept to completion. Much of her earlier work delved into ecology, examining how and where we learn about the natural systems we are part of. Now, her research extends to educational environments, exploring how learning is shaped by the complex institutional systems we navigate. This progression reflects a deepening exploration of interconnection and complexity, both natural and educational. The location of Learning Environments at Nebraska Innovation Campus, with NIC’s strong ties to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the R1 flagship land-grant university, enhances the exhibition by embodying the interdisciplinary exploration and academic inquiry that underpin her work. Kimberley D’Adamo is an artist and a lecturer at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. She studied philosophy and the history of science at St. John's College in Maryland. She earned her BA in Visual Art and Philosophy at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. She has an MA in Art Education from SFSU and just received her doctorate at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Parking Zones: The paved lot north of Transformation Drive is Zone 9900 on the Passport Parking app. On-street parking at NIC is Zone 80. Parking in downtown Lincoln and the Haymarket is Zone 75. Enforcement: Paid parking in the paved lot north of Transformation Drive is enforced from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. On-street metered parking is enforced from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. If you have a NIC parking permit or a UNL parking permit: * If you have a Nebraska Innovation Campus parking permit do not use the Passport Parking app to pay for parking in the paved lot north of Transformation Drive.
