Hi all, In this email, I attached the notes from yesterday’s qualifying workshop, which is about question number 2 of the most recent Algebra qualifying exam (June, 2024). Gabriel and I talked to Professor Walker, and this is the note written by him about both parts. It is road map for the whole problem, so feel free to use it. Results of Organizational Meeting

Dear All, We have a room! We'll be meeting 3:30pm-4:30pm on Tuesdays in AVH 345. We will be focusing on Algebra since that is the greatest overlap. Other quals are still available for discussion, so look for those who are taking the same quals. I will lead the discussion for the first meeting. The discussion leader each week will be responsible for bringing 2 problems to guide the studying. These can come from old quals or old homework's. We'll spend 40-50 minutes working on the problem either individually or in small groups. Things specific to algebra: The 2nd years did not see Galois theory, therefore the upcoming qual should have at least 2 problems from that section that do not require Galois theory. (We should confirm this with the GAC and/or Yvonne). Misc: A shared folder with problems and solutions would be good. The discussion leader should be in charge of uploading a solution. There is a discrete qual in October. See you next week! In the meantime, it would be a good idea to review a bit on your own as we'll start right away with old qual questions. QED Seminar Final Call & First Meeting

All, If you did not fill out the survey but are still interested in attending the QED (Qualifying Exam Discussion) seminar then please add yourself to the list qed(a)lists.unl.edu, or send me an email (gadams11(a)huskers.unl.edu), or attend today. This will be the final email to the general math grads list. From the survey the most popular time was 3:30pm on Tuesday. Our first meeting will be today at 3:30pm outside of my office AVH337. We'll have a proper room next week. There's been some issues with the room reservation system today.
