All – As per our discussion last week, I reached out to Keith Marshall about the potential of the BTAA having a role in the leadership for the Carnegie Engagement designation. His response follows:
Thanks for your email. The key factor is what is meant by “taking this on.” The Big Ten Academic Alliance doesn’t have any funds and we aren’t staffed to take on a project like this, so we don’t have the resources to “take this on” for the benefit of Big Ten universities. If the money and staff are coming from other sources and we’re just being asked to manage it, then we would need the Provosts to approve this is an area of strategic importance that merits dedicating time and energy to support. Finally, if you just want to use our name as part of the application, we’d be happy to write a letter of support.
Given this, are we wanting to pursue any kind of joint effort? Any states wanting to partner? Or, do we put this on hold given our conversation about constraints and the magnitude of the ask?
Looking forward to your thoughts! Kathleen
