Communication specialist
by Silvana Martini 05 Aug '25

05 Aug '25

Hi all, I regret to inform all of you that IANR has not approved the hiring of a communication specialist for the department (Ashley's position). We will meet with IANR next week to discuss how we can fill in this void. This is a vital position for our department, and I'll do as much as I can to bring it back. Susie, will continue with social media posts as her time permits, but it will be slower than what we had before... It is a big shame... we were doing such great progress with Ashley... I am aware that the website needs a lot of work too and this is something that I will discuss with IANR next week. I just want to ask you for patience as we navigate these difficult times. Please keep tagging us in your social media posts as it will help us keep the momentum going... Also, if you have any material that you would like to see posted through the FST SM accounts, please let us know. Thanks, Silvana [University of Nebraska – Lincoln] Silvana Martini, PhD Professor, Department Head University of Nebraska-Lincoln Food Science & Technology Lincoln, NE 402-472-5267 Editor-in-Chief, Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://aocs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/15… > Fellow of the American Oil Chemists' Society Past President of the American Oil Chemists' Society (2022-2023)<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.aocs.org__;!!PvXuogZ4sRB2p-tU!AI1-OM… > Donate to FST!<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://nufoundation.org/fund/01043120__;!!PvXu… >

Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, Disney’s Frozen includes all the film’s beloved songs by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, along with new music written exclusively for the stage. In the beautiful mountainous kingdom of Arendelle, Princesses Anna and Elsa grow up sheltered inside their castle, isolated from the world and increasingly distant from each other. When Elsa is crowned queen, the magical powers she’s desperately tried to conceal from her sister take control, and she flees into the mountains. As a ferocious winter descends on Arendelle, Anna sets off on an epic journey to find Elsa and bring her home - with the help of hardworking ice harvester Kristoff, his loyal reindeer Sven, and a happy-go-lucky snowman named Olaf. Full of magic, humor, and a stunning musical score, Frozen is a powerful tale of sisterhood, acceptance and finding the real meaning of true love. As we begin the new fiscal year, we will be migrating to slightly larger local business center teams to provide more seamless coverage. The new business center/unit alignments are as follows, with affiliation changes in bold and highlighted: AVE - Carrie Adams, Manager - Current AVE units + Entomology, LTAP, Engler, Forensic Science HAPPI - Teresa Loseke, Manager - Current HAPPI units + Beadle Center NRBC - Kyle Bogus, Manager - Current NRBC units + Ag Leadership Education and Communications, Ag Econ, MEP, RPN NIC - Sarah Stehr, Manager - Current NIC units + Biological Systems Engineering, DWFI ENREEC - Sarah Hansen, Manager WCREEC/PREEC - Hannah Hokanson, Manager Additionally, we are creating focused HR and Financial Operations teams. These teams will bring together roles from across all business centers into central support teams. This adjustment is intended to provide more depth, stability, continuity and consistency of services. The team leaders are shown below: HR/Payroll Operations Team - Mindy Lang, Manager Financial Operations Team - Manager TBD For now, processing and support requests should continue to be directed to your local business center team, who will insure delivery to the appropriate staff within our operation. As we settle into the new structure, some of our processes and staff locations may change. Updated instructions will be provided accordingly. Feel free to share this message within your units as you feel is helpful. If you receive questions that I can assist in answering do not hesitate to let me know. Thank you. Websites have become the digital front door to IANR-serving as a vital connection point for our students, colleagues, partners, and the public. Whether we're sharing research, promoting programs, or collecting information, our web presence plays a critical role in how we communicate and engage. Unfortunately, as our reliance on websites has grown, so too have the cybersecurity threats targeting them. Today, no website is too small or obscure to be a target. Bad actors are constantly scanning for vulnerabilities to gain access to University systems, steal or damage data, or deface content-potentially harming the reputation of both the University and the individuals behind the sites. What We're Asking of You: We need your help to ensure our websites are secure, compliant, and sustainable. Please take time to review any websites you own or manage, especially if they: * Are hosted outside of the UNL CMS (e.g., Wix, Squarespace, Weebly, WordPress) * Are not hosted on University ITS-supported infrastructure * Are not regularly updated or maintained (sites that have not been updated content or code wise in the past 6-12 months). Sites meeting this criteria are particularly vulnerable and should be considered for migration to University-supported platforms. Why This Matters: All University websites-regardless of where they are hosted-must comply with: * University security standards * Executive Memoranda 16 and 42 * Federal accessibility requirements under Title II of the ADA (compliance deadline: April 28, 2026) These standards are essential to protect University data, ensure accessibility for all users, and uphold the integrity of our digital presence. Effective Immediately: While we understand that there will be cases in which we are needing to stand up custom solutions in which we have partnered with ITS on, going forward: * All new websites must be created in consultation with IANR Media or through an approved and fully supported path provided by ITS. * All existing websites hosted outside of approved environments must be re-evaluated * Sites that are able to, should be migrated to a supported platform * Sites that previously were not a good fit for UNL CMS or that may take a little more work; we are asking that you reach out to IANR Media or to ITS to start those discussions and plans now Maintaining websites outside of these environments introduces significant security, legal, and operational risks to the University and everyone involved and associated with them If you have any questions on this, please contact Jason Cooper, Communications Media Coordinator or Bryan Kinnan, IT Coordinator. Thanks, Bryan and Jason

Hi all, I just wanted to send a brief e-mail to let you know that by availability might be limited during the next couple of weeks. My father's health has been declining drastically, and I am traveling to Argentina tomorrow to be with family. We are preparing for the worst. I will be working while I am in Argentina, but my e-mails might be delayed, and my meetings might be changed to zoom. I apologize in advance if my e-mails come at weird hours and/or dates... I appreciate your understanding.
