The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is calling on faculty and staff to help stock the Husker Pantryhttps://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/unl.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=aa74e0e500b559fc0e6fc7a2f&id=8ce3d14251&e=563deffe7f__;!!PvXuogZ4sRB2p-tU!BUMzBIhFcyEGKNZFzTk4Hm0jMKk7HAjENaV7Ldu6iui46zdl1eH8Ulr3dONoXJVB2QlmDGZHYwectGYjBMw$ through a Winter Food Drive taking place now through November 12. Organizers hope to collect 3,500 items to support students facing food insecurity. Since the start of the fall semester, the pantry has served 874 total households and 1,800 individuals. In total, 16,505 items have been distributed to students and their families.
Canned goods — such as soups, beans, fruits and vegetables — are among the most-needed items, along with personal hygiene products like toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant. Cash donations are also accepted, though Madison said the pantry relies heavily on physical items.
Participants can give in several ways, including donating at collection bins located across the university, contributing monetarily, or purchasing items directly from the pantry’s Amazon Wish List. The exhibition Butterflies, Birds, Blooms and Bugs — Can You Find the Bugs? offers a glimpse of hope found in the beauty of the natural world that God has created. Through her lens, photographer Jerri Reher Haussler captures moments where His presence is revealed — in the pollen resting on the soft petals of wildflowers along a spring roadside, the sunlight glimmering on a bee’s translucent wings in a summer garden, the gentle movement of a butterfly as it drifts from flower to flower in the fall and the seedpod spilling lacy fluff from a milkweed as winter approaches.
A self-taught photographer with an eye for detail, Jerri finds joy in observing and documenting the world around her. She is also a published author of Entrepreneurs of Hastings: Short Sketches of Some Nebraska Risktakers and Simple Faith, Mighty Faith: A 40-Lesson Devotional and Memoir. Jerri earned her B.A. in Business Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University and an M.A. in Educational Psychology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. She retired from Hastings College in 2002 as the Associate Dean of Students. Her photography has been displayed at the Minden Opera House and the Hastings Museum.
All photos are available for purchase and would make a beautiful addition to your office, waiting area or children’s medical clinic. For purchase inquiries, Jerri can be reached at (402) 984-0250 or jerrihaussler@gmail.commailto:jerrihaussler@gmail.com.
This exhibit is free and open to the public daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

What To Do:
1. Fill the Hefty Energy orange bag with clean, dry, hard-to-recycle plastics like plastic packaging, grocery bags, wrappers and foam products. * Don’t include recyclable plastics—keep those loose in your curbside recycling bin. 2. When full, tie up the orange bag and place it with your curbside recycling along with your normal recyclables. Why Should I Do It? Hefty diverts hard to recycle plastics from the landfill. The orange bag keeps otherwise nonrecyclable plastics from contaminating the recyclables plastics.
