Colleagues and Students - For the next two FST seminars, we have Robert Vavala and Krista Croghan from the Center for Transformative Teaching giving a workshop on AI Use by Undergraduate Students (Thu, Oct 9th) and Responsible AI Use by Instructors (Thu, Oct 16th). These workshops are sure to help students and instructors learn about new teaching methods and AI tools. Here's a July 2025 article from The Chronicle of Higher Education on How Are Students Really Using AI?<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.chronicle.com/article/how-are-stude… > that may be of interest and provide additional context ahead of the workshop. Interestingly, here's an October 2025 article from NPR on Research, Curriculum and Grading: New Data Sheds Light on How Professors Are using AI.<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.npr.org/2025/10/02/nx-s1-5550365/co… > This is a timely topic and let's thank Dr. Kurt Piepenbrink for organizing this workshop for the Department. Friendly reminder: FST Seminars are held on Thursdays, 12:00 - 12:50 pm, Room 277 Food Innovation Center. Come early (~11:30 am) for coffee and snacks to meet/greet our speakers and graduate students. Hello Fdst, I'm Temmy. I'd like to propose a results-based partnership with no upfront fees, just payment from the growth I help create. It's a low-risk way to increase your shopify sales, keep more profit, and increase your revenue sources without spending anything to start. Would you be open to discussing how this partnership can improve your ecommerce business?

Break Room Fridge
by Susie Fauble 20 Oct '25

20 Oct '25

Hello all, We have had a complaint on the amount of food in the break room freezer that seems to have been there several months. Just a quick reminder to take a moment this week and check the fridge and freezer for any personal items that may have been in there a while. If you have food stored that's expired, forgotten, or no longer need, please remove it by Friday afternoon. If there are things you need to keep in there, please date it so we know that it's not old. We will be doing a clean-out either the end of this week or beginning of next, to keep the space tidy and make room for fresh items. Anything left behind that appears old or unclaimed will be discarded. Inspired by travels with family and friends, Valery transforms photographs into paintings that invite a deeper, more personal reflection. Each piece requires careful attention to detail, reconnecting her with the memories of a specific time and place. Marbles, with their bold and brilliant colors, are treasures in their own right and reflect her fascination with vibrant hues. Likewise, the luminous array of colors found in flowers continues to bring her immense joy—an energy that shines throughout this collection. Valery Wachter is a dedicated member of the Lincoln arts community. She has served on the Friends of UNL Art Department board, MEDICI, the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board and the selection committee for the Mayor’s Arts Awards. She is represented by the Burkholder Project Gallery and is a founding and current member of the Bryan Health Art Committee. Valery holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Please consider actively promoting these opportunities within your units and encouraging colleagues to nominate deserving individuals. For your convenience, a list of eligible faculty for the Harold and Esther Edgerton Junior Faculty Award is also attached. Remember to check with your college dean's offices for any college processes and deadlines for submitting nominations to them for review. Some awards do not need to route through your dean's office, for these awards, submit all nomination materials as one PDF online at go.unl.edu/evccampusawards<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://unlcorexmuw.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d… >. Nominations Due: February 1 For more information on each award, required nomination materials and past winners visit our website at https://executivevc.unl.edu/faculty/evaluation-recognition/awards . Her work is included in private collections across the country and her sculpture Nebraska Wildflowers is permanently installed on the Bryan East Campus. Her work is included in private collections across the country and her sculpture Nebraska Wildflowers is permanently installed on the Bryan East Campus. News about the IAPC
by Silvana Martini 01 Oct '25

01 Oct '25

Dear Colleagues, I am happy to announce that the Department of Biosystems Engineering has decided to re-launch the IAPC. This achievement was possible thanks to the hard for of Loren Isom and Dr. Ozan Ciftci who worked closely with Dr. Mark Stone and industry partners to bring this Center back to life. This couldn't have been possible, of course, without the support from IANR. Starting on October 1st 2025, Dr. Ozan Ciftci will be named as the Interim Director of the IAPC and he will lead a visioning effort over the next several months. Loren Isom will serve as the Assistant Director and he will continue to bring his energy, experience, and expertise to the team. Please help me congratulate the team for this outstanding accomplishment! I can't wait to see the growth of the IAPC in the upcoming years!
